Do Romantic Comedies Do Well in the Box Office

Every all year long the holiday season, we're confronted with a brand new slew of romantic comedies addressing holiday themes. But do these films do as well within the box office as other genres of film? Otherwise, so why do they keep getting produced as steadily as films of other genres?

I recently checked out their email list of the best players highest grossing movies ever. On the list merely a meager two films on the list were romantic comedies. Namely, Satisfy the Fockers, and Pretty Woman. So only 2% of the top grossing films ever were romantic? Seems rather dismal. I guess, two other films loosely might be called romantic comedies: Ghost and Mamma Mia. In my estimation Ghost qualifies more like a supernatural romantic film than the usual romantic comedy. Mamma Mia qualifies more like a musical.

So how come this area office year after year turn over totally new slate of romantic comedies when only two romantic comedies happen to be considered massive box office successes? So how exactly does any filmmaker get funding for any film, if it is pretty much certain to make less cash than other films of other genres. For me, the key reason that romantic comedies keep getting made is the fact that romantic comedies are less costly to create than other genres. Therefore, it's easier and maybe quicker to show an income on these films.

The genres which are the hugest box offices successes will also be, no real surprise, much more expensive. We now have our massive budget blockbuster, record-breaking successes like Titanic and Lord of the Rings (loaded to the gills with special and visual fx, action, stars, and elaborate sets and costumes. Only then do we have our intensive animation category ie Lion King, Shrek and Cars, extremely expensive for create(sometimes taking massive animation teams a long time to create. )

Additionally, the Hollywood industry really wants to make sure seats are filled when the film is released to theatres. Producing romantic comedies, or yes let's just do it-- say it, let us, Chick Flicks, are an extremely safe bet. Women, year after year, are certain to drag men in to the theatres to look at romantic comedies.

Before you decide to go ahead and examine me to be sexist within this viewpoint, Among the finest to indicate that i'm a lady. And i'm a lady who doesn't actually enjoy romantic comedies very much. Yet I too need to profess I've, on a number of occasions, dragged a guy, kicking and screaming even, to determine a Chick Flick. Sometimes the occasion is simply ideal for an intimate comedy with no other film will suffice. For instance, romantic comedies are a tempting pick for dates and romantic occasions for example valentines' day. You are able to bet (and Hollywood can bet too) that each single weekend there are countless couples on dates. Countless couples settle on the relatively safe bet of visiting a romantic comedy.

Romantic comedies don't fare so well in the box office whenever you consider the top grossing films ever; however, you can easily realise why they're produced year after year. When adjusted based on how much romantic comedies cost to make vs. how much they gross, I know the data could be much different. These films cost nowhere close to much to make as action films, animated films or fx-driven films and they've a stable and reliable built-in audience. Hollywood always enjoys a secure bet, and chick flicks are without doubt safe. There's always some newly dating couple to visit a movie, seeking to choose something innocuous,
