Paramount Pictures - Watchmen 1 at Box Office

Blockbuster film "Watchmen" released by Warner Bros, and internationally by Paramount Pictures, has landed atop its northern border American box office.




The superhero film, helmed by Zach Snyder, rallied over the weekend to simply go ahead and take top spot. Watchmen generated approximately $55. Six million in the United states box office in it's weekend opening, averaging $15, 413 per theater. The Paramount Pictures movie debuted using 3, 611 theater and 124 IMAX screens. International figures weren't available by press time.



Reviews of the greatly anticipated picture happen to be mostly positive, with Rotten Tomatoes showing 65% favorable reviews.



The film's opening weekend have been hyped to possibly top those of director Zach Snyder's previous graphic novel adaptation "300, " which previously set a March opening record of $70. 9 million in 2007. Even though film didn't meet these expectations it ended up getting back more than the usual third of the picture's $150 million original budget. With international numbers still unknown, it's possible the figure may go up within the following days.



Other films by Paramount Pictures in theaters earlier this weekend include "Friday the 13th" which fell to number thirteen with $1. 5 million in the domestic box office, bringing it's total earnings to $63. 3 million and $82 million globally. Paramount Pictures Oscar winner "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" generated $585, 000 bringing it's eleven week tally to $126 million, having a global gross $315 million.



"Revolutionary Road" and "Defiance, " both released by Paramount Vantage, a division of Paramount Pictures, earned $230, 000 and $210, 000 respectively bringing their total gross to $22. 3 million in The united states and $70 million worldwide for Revolutionary Road, and $28 million domestically and $41 million globally.
